Denmark’s Malnutrition Awareness Week 2025

Denmark’s Malnutrition Awareness Week 2025

Denmark’s Malnutrition Awareness Week 2025: Strengthening Action Against Disease-Related Malnutrition

Dates: November 3–7, 2025 (Week 45)

As part of this year’s European Malnutrition Awareness Week (MAW 2025), Denmark will once again hold its own Malnutrition Awareness Week, a nationwide initiative taking place from 3–7 November 2025.

The Danish campaign brings together healthcare professionals, researchers, and organizations committed to reducing disease-related malnutrition across hospitals, municipalities, and the wider community.

Collaborative Effort for Better Nutrition Care

Denmark’s Nutrition Week is jointly organized by the Danish Society for Clinical Nutrition (DSKE) and ONCA-Denmark. Through locally led activities, Denmark continues to champion the European movement to ensure every citizen receives optimal nutritional care.

The initiative aims to:

  • Increase awareness of the burden and costs of malnutrition,

  • Strengthen nutrition care across health and social care sectors, and

  • Encourage concrete actions at political, institutional, and local levels.

Key Highlight: Political Conference on November 5

A major event during the week is the Political Conference hosted under the auspices of ONCA-Denmark in collaboration with Per Larsen, Health Policy Spokesperson for the Conservative Party.

The conference will take place on Monday, November 5, at Dansk Erhverv (next to the Danish Stock Exchange in Copenhagen). It will gather politicians, municipal and regional leaders, and representatives from patient organizations including The Danish Lung Association and DaneAge Association (Ældresagen). For more information please visit the DSKE website.

Supporting Local Activities and Innovation

To encourage nationwide engagement, DSKE is awarding five grants of up to 2,000 DKK for activities taking place during MAW 2025. Additionally, DAPEN has launched a dedicated grant programme to promote local initiatives in communities and hospitals. Out of nine applicants, five projects will receive financial support to carry out activities during the week. These local efforts help expand the reach of the campaign and bring malnutrition awareness directly into clinical and community settings. Details on the application process and deadlines are available on the DSKE website.

Educational Initiatives

Education remains a central focus in Denmark’s campaign:

  • Specialist training for doctors in geriatrics will include a full-day teaching session led by Henrik Højgaard Rasmussen and Mette Holst, integrating nutritional care into medical training.

  • Multiprofessional education sessions will be held at all major university hospitals during the week, fostering collaboration among doctors, dietitians, nurses, and other healthcare professionals.

New Resource: ESPEN Fact Sheets in Danish

For the first time, eight ESPEN Fact Sheets have been translated into Danish and are currently being finalized for publication. Once completed in mid-October, they will be available on ESPEN’s website and on the DAPEN homepage, where they will be promoted via Facebook and LinkedIn. These resources aim to make evidence-based nutrition information more accessible to Danish professionals and the public.

Engaging and Sharing

In addition to national events, Denmark’s campaign encourages professionals and institutions to share their activities using the hashtag #nutritionweek. A dedicated Facebook group for Danish nutrition professionals, including hospital and municipal staff, serves as a hub for sharing ideas, materials, and best practices.

Organizations planning activities are invited to submit details to DSKE’s web editor at [email protected] by October 24, 2025, to be featured on DSKE’s website.

A European Effort for Nutritional Care

Through these coordinated efforts, Denmark continues to be a strong contributor to the European Nutrition for Health Alliance (ENHA) and the ONCA campaign, advancing the shared goal of optimal nutritional care for all.

From political dialogue to clinical education and local engagement, Denmark’s MAW 2025 demonstrates how national action and European collaboration can work hand in hand to reduce the burden of disease-related malnutrition.
