Italy’s Malnutrition Awareness Week 2025

Italy’s Malnutrition Awareness Week 2025: From Awareness to Action

Dates: November 3–7, 2025

Italy joins the European Nutrition for Health Alliance (ENHA) and ONCA network in marking Malnutrition Awareness Week 2025, reaffirming its commitment to making nutritional care a national health priority.

National Policy Objective: Recognition of Nutritional Care

Under the leadership of the Italian Society of Artificial Nutrition and Metabolism (SINPE), Italy’s 2025 campaign focuses on the policy objective:

To drive national recognition of nutritional care as an essential and cost-effective component of healthcare.

This initiative builds on a strong rationale:

  1. Uniting the scientific community — coordinating actions across clinical nutrition and dietitian societies.

  2. Collaborating with broader medical fields — embedding nutritional care principles across other scientific and clinical disciplines.

Supported by patients’ associations and recognized by policy makers, this two-track approach ensures that nutrition is fully integrated into Italy’s national health priorities.

Key Policy Ask:

The Italian campaign calls on the Ministry of Health to formally recognise and integrate nutritional care as an essential and cost-effective component of healthcare across all settings.

New National Initiative: Malnutrition Task Force Italia – Awareness into Action

At the heart of the 2025 campaign is a new initiative: the Malnutrition Task Force Italia, launched under the theme Awareness into Action.

This public health and scientific campaign aims to raise awareness of malnutrition and quality nutrition care among healthcare professionals and clinicians nationwide.

Lead Partners:

  • SINPE – Italian Society of Artificial Nutrition and Metabolism

  • ASAND – Italian Association of Dietitians

  • AIOM – Italian Association of Medical Oncology

  • IG-IBD – Italian Group for Inflammatory Bowel Disease

  • FADOI – Federation of Internal Medicine

  • Patient Associations: Filo per la Vita, ANNA, AMICI, FAVO and others

Campaign Channels:

  • SINPE website and newsletter

  • Educational webinars and workshops

  • Social media campaigns on Facebook and Instagram

  • Local activities across hospitals and healthcare facilities

Webinars and Educational Activities

As part of MAW 2025, SINPE will host a series of national webinars focusing on malnutrition prevention, clinical nutrition, and integrated care models. Full details to be added once webinar titles and speakers are confirmed from the SINPE page.

In addition, SINPE for Young, a growing network of young professionals, is collaborating with early-career members of other medical societies to host joint webinars and multidisciplinary sessions, designed to promote knowledge exchange, strengthen advocacy, and build the next generation of nutrition leaders.

Awareness and Community Engagement

Throughout the week, Italian partners will drive engagement across digital channels:

These platforms will share content, infographics, and key messages to raise public awareness and celebrate activities happening across the country.

Local institutions and healthcare providers are also encouraged to join the campaign by organizing educational sessions, hospital awareness stands, and social media initiatives under the hashtag #MAW2025 and #ITALYMAW2025.

A Strong National Voice in a European Effort

Through its coordinated strategy and broad coalition, Italy continues to be one of Europe’s strongest advocates for integrating nutritional care into healthcare policy.

The Malnutrition Task Force Italia demonstrates how collaboration among scientific societies, clinicians, and patient associations can turn awareness into concrete policy and practice changes.

As part of ENHA’s ONCA network, Italy’s Nutrition Week 2025 reinforces the European call for optimal nutritional care for all, ensuring that no patient suffers from malnutrition in silence.
