Sweden’s Malnutrition Awareness Week 2025

Overview
Sweden will join the European Malnutrition Awareness Week 2025, offering a dedicated week of activities aimed at raising awareness about disease-related malnutrition, sharing knowledge, and promoting good nutritional care practices across healthcare and community settings.
While the national policy objective for MAW 2025 is under development, the week will provide an opportunity to engage healthcare professionals, students, policymakers, and the public in discussions about malnutrition and its prevention.
National Initiatives
A new national initiative is currently being planned, with activities and focus areas to be announced as preparations progress.
Key partners include universities, regional healthcare organizations, and the Swedish Dietitians Association, ensuring that the campaign reaches both professional and public audiences.
Planned Activities
During the week of December 1–5, 2025, the following activities are scheduled or planned:
University & Academic Initiatives:

Umeå University – Dietetics Program:

Development of fact sheets and online learning activities on malnutrition.

Exploration of future collaboration with the Faculty of Medicine.

University of Gothenburg – Dietetics Program:

Collaboration with VGR (Västra Götaland Region) for MAW activities scheduled for December 3.

Short breakfast webinars (30 min) on nutrition-related topics for healthcare personnel and social carers.

Public awareness campaign using digital screens in community and healthcare settings, complemented by social media posts.

Targeted campaign for healthcare personnel with information displayed on workplace digital screens and intranets of municipalities and regional organizations.

Materials:

Educational materials will be developed and translated where needed for both citizens and healthcare personnel, supporting ongoing and planned activities.
Flexibility Across Regions:

Other regions and organizations have the freedom to organize local initiatives in line with their circumstances, ensuring broad participation across Sweden.
