Objective: to make the problem visible

The objective of this first year of national actions is to raise awareness of the frequency and impact
of the disease-related malnutrition in the patient and/or elderly, draw attention to the problem and
stress the importance of optimal care.

What can you do?

Do you work in the health or social sector in Belgium? Take part in this action and join the fight
against disease-related malnutrition among the patient and/or elderly.
During this week of malnutrition awareness, draw attention to this issue within your organization,
among professional colleagues and among your patients and beneficiaries and their families.
Everyone needs to hear about it! You will be helping to raise awareness and improve the
identification, screening, and treatment of malnutrition linked to illness and/or age.

Here are a few ideas:

  • take part in International Nutrition Day.
  • watch our video (only available in French) and share it with members of your professional
    network.
  • tackle the subject of malnutrition in your communication channels. For example an article on your
website, a link in your newsletter, publications on your social networks, etc.
  • print and use the awareness-raising poster for patients and the elderly*. (Available in the folder below)
  • do you have a waiting room or other reception area with a screen? Use it to show the
campaign visuals*. (Available in the folder below)
  • mobilize the associations and federations to which you belong.
  • arrange actions within your organization, for example, a quiz, an information stand, a
presentation*, or a lunch with information on the theme.
  • circulate the ESPEN fact sheet.
  • any other ideas? Go for it!
