Nutritional Care Policy Summit PARIS 1 & 2 JUNE

Malnutrition Awareness Weeks 2025

Malnutrition Awareness Weeks 2025

In 2025, 17 ONCA countries will participate in a vital campaign to raise awareness and promote better nutritional care: Malnutrition Awareness Week.
This year, a dedicated European Union–level Malnutrition Awareness Week will also be launched. Together with partner organisations such as ESPEN, UEG and EFAD, the European Nutrition for Health Alliance (ENHA) will bring nutrition higher on the EU policy agenda. Building on themes from the ENHA Manifesto, such as nutrition in cancer care and patient empowerment in nutritional care, the campaign will feature a series of actions including toolkits, a policy session in the European Parliament, and an online webinar.

The ONCA Malnutrition Awareness Weeks

Since 2020, with the support of the Optimal Nutritional Care for All (ONCA) campaign, many European countries have successfully launched their own Malnutrition Awareness Week (MAW) initiatives. While each country’s MAW has its own timing, objectives, and programs, they all share a common goal: driving the implementation of optimal nutritional care in line with the ONCA campaign. Each national MAW provides a platform to raise awareness of malnutrition, tackling country-specific challenges while fostering collaboration among healthcare professionals, patients, policymakers, and other key stakeholders. The recurring nature of the campaign ensures ongoing attention to malnutrition and encourages sustainable partnerships.

If your country is interested in participating, please reach out to the secretariat for more information.

ONCA’s Role in Supporting Malnutrition Awareness Weeks

To enhance collaboration and share best practices, the ONCA team facilitates a series of interactive workshops that help countries prepare for their MAW campaigns. These workshops enable participants to exchange ideas, challenges, and strategic insights while sharing valuable materials and successful strategies.

Key workshops include:

  • Kick-off Workshop (February 26, 2025): Delegates from 17 ONCA countries began preparations for MAW 2025.
  • ONCA Conference Workshop (May 6, 2025): During the ONCA Conference in Athens, a breakout session titled “MAW Communications Workshop” focused on communication strategies for MAW.
  • Follow-up Workshop (September 3, 2025): This session allowed countries to share updates, discuss challenges, and exchange solutions and materials for their upcoming MAW activities.
